News Flash!!! Upgrade Your Spring Cleaning with these Natural DIYs
It is officially Spring, which means it’s time to pack away the wool blankets, open the windows, and get to cleaning! We’ve just finished freshening up the store and have found some natural cleaning options that make wonderful alternatives to traditional chemical cleaners. Check out our DIY natural cleaning supply list below to kick off your Spring cleaning!
- All Purpose Cleaner
- Equal parts water and white vinegar
- Citrus fruit peels, 2-3 for a 2 cup solution
- Soak peels in water/vinegar solution for about 1 week
- Transfer solution (without peels) to a spray bottle
- *Avoid using on unfinished wood and stone countertops
- Scrub dirt and grime with coarse salt and half a lemon
- Great for removing grime, disinfecting, and shining stainless steel
- Garbage Disposal Tablets
- Slice citrus fruit into small pieces (easiest to cut in round slices and then into fourths)
- Put into ice cube tray
- Fill each cube in tray with vinegar and freeze
- Use: Run hot water 1 minute, turn off water, pour ½ cup baking soda down disposal, drop 1-2 tablets into disposal and wait 1 minute, turn water back on to drizzle and turn on disposal, wait until tablet is disposal is clean of tablet and water runs through
- Toilet Fizzies
- Combine 1 cup baking soda, ½ cup citric acid, and 40 drops essential oil (recommended: citrus scents)
- In spray bottle, combine 1 tbsp. hydrogen peroxide and 1 tsp. white vinegar. Shake.
- Slowly mist and stir peroxide/vinegar solution into dry mixture until fully mixed
- Pack into silicone cube tray (or other shape) and let sit overnight or until fully dry
- Remove from tray and store in airtight container
- Use: Drop 1-2 cubes into toilet bowl, wait 1 minute for fizzing, scrub with toilet brush, flush
- Carpet Stain Remover
- Combine 6 cups hot water, ¼ cup hydrogen peroxide, 2 tbsp. castile soap, 2 tbsp. white vinegar, 15-20 drops essential oil (recommended: citrus scents) and pour into large jug
- Pour into carpet steam cleaner or apply directly to stain and scrub in circles with a soft bristle brush
- Fabric Freshener
- Combine 2 cups water, 1 tbsp. baking soda, and 10 drops essential oil (recommended: light, fresh scents) and pour into spray bottle with label
- Lightly spray carpet, furniture, and bedding to freshen
- Air Purifier
- Green or blooming plant – plants intake carbon dioxide and output oxygen, purifying your home and promoting quality air for breathing
