August's Design of the Month, Summer's Prickly Finale, represents the juxtaposition between the quickly fleeting Summer season and the rapidly approaching Autumn, which holds endless new opportunities for the University of Iowa students who return to their studies at the end of this month.
Maddie, the designer of this arrangement, captures the feelings many students have as they say farewell to Summer vacation and greet the new semester ready to grow -- feelings she is quite familiar with as she enters her final year at the University before graduating with her Elementary Education degree next Spring.
A note from the Designer:
"It was so fun to create a piece that encapsulates the dichotomy of emotions that arises as Summer comes to a close and the new school year begins. The sharpness of the cactus represents the prickly feeling the end of Summer brings, while the vibrant color scheme signifies the bright opportunities that come with a new term of school. I think all students can identify with this contrast, and I hope to cultivate excitement for my young learners as they enter my classroom, just as this arrangement does for the scholars at the University!
