Gratitude Gala Series: Maddie

“It’s not where you are in life, it’s who you have by your side that matters.”

2019 has been a wonderful year so far… not because of the amenities and material goods I enjoy or the money I have made, but because of the amazing people in my life who have helped me grow to be a better person.  Without their love, support, and care I am certain I would not be the daughter, sister, significant other, friend, and future educator I am today; I would like to thank them all for the impact they have on my life every day.

To my family:

Thank you to my parents for giving me the tools to be a positive member of society.  For showing me that kindness, compassion, and doing the right thing, even if you are standing alone, is far better than doing the popular thing.  Thank you for teaching me to be true to myself, pursue my passions, and face my fears head on.  I am thankful to you both for pushing me to stand on my own, but always being there to help me up when I fall.

Thank you, my brother, for being my best friend.  I hold our memories of laughter, playing, arguments, adventures, and talks close to my heart as we both begin our lives as adults.  I am grateful to have you to lean on, vent to, and laugh about inside jokes with.  Regardless of where life takes us, I am thankful to always have you as my best friend.

To my significant other:

Thank you to my amazing significant other for your endless support, love, and encouragement.  Thank you for making me laugh, even when I don’t want to, dancing like a fool with me in public, and always making me feel like I can conquer the world.  I am grateful for the relationships you have developed with my family and the ones you have given me the opportunity to develop with yours.  Thank you for loving me on my best days and worst and making me incredibly happy.  I am thankful to “do life” with you.

To my friends:

Thank you, my friends, for wine nights, study dates, spontaneous Target runs, secrets kept, all of which are accompanied with bounds of laughter.  I am grateful for the fun we have no matter where we are or what we are doing, and the memories we always make together.

To my educators:

Thank you to my educators, at all levels, for inspiring and encouraging my passion for teaching.  Thank you for creating safe and welcoming classroom environments, caring about my success (academically and personally), and showing me that being an educator is so much more than teaching material from a textbook.  I am incredibly thankful for the tools you have provided me that will make me a better educator to my future students when I have a classroom of my own.

To my students:

Finally, thank you to my funny, curious and brilliant third graders.  Thank you for welcoming me into your classroom without hesitation, being excited listeners and learners, and forgiving me when I make mistakes in my teaching.  I am grateful for your daily hugs, high-fives, and hand-written notes, your enthusiasm to learn, and the way you have motivated and inspired me to be the best teacher possible for you and my students in the future.

Thank you, again, to the amazing, fabulous, wonderful people in my life.  I am grateful for each one of you and the impacts you have had on shaping who I am.
